What a week ! While I hope I can inspire people around me with my blog posts they also help me reflecting on what’s important to me, what keeps me moving and thinking about these days. No matter if it is in my book ( yes, yes, yes - it’s coming together) or on this blog I like this to be authentic and real in terms of what I have been able to explore over the last years and what I have learned on this journey so far, especially living the lifestyle working in events. Yes, I call it a lifestyle as your job and your private life overlap and interfere a lot and you can’t just draw a line. And the longer I have thought about it, the less it made sense to me to even try to differ between work + life. Making it a lifestyle is a way easier and Continue Reading
Le Book Project
If you wait till you are ready you will be waiting the rest of your life.
A lot of times I got asked the same question: “ Do you feel ready to…..move to Portland, do this job, take this responsibility?” To this day I have always hated this question as it ultimately raised the next question in me which was what the correct answer would or should be. I still don’t know if there is answer to it when your boss, co-workers or your friends are asking you this question no matter how well they mean. How honest do I have to be? What are they expecting? What does it help to know? For sure one of the reasons why I have never liked it is the fact that at least I never felt 120% ready taking on the next challenge or opportunity and it made me insecure as well as I felt kind of caught in the act. I doubt if Continue Reading
YOU MAKE IT OR YOU BREAK IT.
.... it sounds pretty self-explaining, doesn’t it? Having worked in the event industry for the last 14 years this quote has been a constant companion in my life. Right after school when we all started going in different directions, trying to figure out our first steps of our careers and getting started at college, in first jobs or just went travelling the times you could see your friends got way more rare than we you were used to. I remember the phone calls, texts and discussions vividly when I started cancelling dinners three days in a row because I couldn’t leave work on time or I something has popped up in between. “You just started with them, you are doing an apprenticeship, how come you are that important for this project? Continue Reading
BEGIN ANYWHERE
....Blog, Instagram, lebook project, freelancing – what a ride! It’s been four weeks now that I left my old job after 14 amazing years. I didn’t know what to expect at all and I did not know if I’d love it or hate it. As a first resume, I’d say I couldn’t be happier. Not because I left a company I loved and love, just because everything else that I get to do right now. I am not a web designer, I am not a graphic designer or photographer, rather am I a PR person, marketing pro even less an experienced author. I have never used Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, let's say social media the way I do it right now and I know that I am far away from being professional or can call myself expert. I have had a freelance business in Germany for six Continue Reading
listen to others but don’t silence your own voice
Carnival, Mardi Gras, Spring break, Prom and what’s next? It seems like your parents, friends and family just got back into their routine as the questions about your future became a little less frequent after the holiday season peak. Am I right? Some of you already might have the plan, you know exactly which university you want to go and how to get accepted and if you get asked where you will be 5 years from now you can answer in three straight sentences. Done. Check. Have fun and don’t forget: Change is the only constant;-). And then there is people like me. It was February, Carnival season was just around the corner, and I kind of had a plan and I knew I would do something, but nothing was written in stone and nothing was confirmed at Continue Reading
Hey, I am Carol.
Have you ever been the first guest to enter a California Pizza Kitchen restaurant right when they open at 11a? This is exactly where I got to meet Carol McKibben in person for the first time. She figured that it wouldn’t be busy so we would have time to talk, grab an early lunch, and meet in the middle of her home and my hotel. To me, that describes perfectly how easy-going, uncomplicated, and pragmatic Carol is, and those are just some of the things I love about her. When she walks into the room being super fit and well-dressed, you’d never guess her age. The only hint I am giving is that there were two decades between my bet and her real age. She just looks amazing. But that’s just something that makes her a super woman in my eyes. Continue Reading
