Maybe we should always quarantine for five days when we arrive in Germany. We loved having time to get settled, to adjust, to unwind after busy weeks in PDX and to get in all the snuggles in with these two shenanigans.

2020 - travel adventures during unprecedented oreg

2020 - travel adventures during unprecedented oregon wildfires & a global pandemic include:

* a drive with a rental car ( mini-van to fit all our stuff & ourselves) to Seattle because our flight from PDX got cancelled due to the foggy, smokey air.

* a flight from Seattle to Frankfurt with about 8 seats for ourselves in a plane which was appr. 10-15% occupied. It was nice for us, but also sad to see. Also, we were masked-up for 10+ hours....

* a corona test at Frankfurter airport.

* two great, flexible & fun travel kids. Amy did great on her debut, Lucy hardly napped because she was sooo excited to see Oma & Opa 😂.

This how it looks like when you currently have the worst air quality in the world.
.
It makes me so sad. Seeing the ashes in the air as well as laying on cars, plants and just everywhere outside makes me wonder what all of this was before? Trees? Houses? Special belongings of somebody? Toys?
.
We have already learned so many good, hard & grounding lessons in 2020. I guess that’s another one on #climatechange.
.
I wish our Portland summer (before we head to Germany this week) would have ended with another paddle board adventure, but it is what it is.
.
On a positive note - it’s been one of the best summers we ever had here. We finally got to explore the greater PDX area even more.
We have created family-paddle-water-memories that we’ll have forever as well as we got to enjoy a lot of much needed family time around the house and in our neighborhood.
.
We realized once more what we kinda knew already: as much as we love travelling, we love being home & as much as we like people, we are just fine in our little quartett, too!
.

All that said our heart goes to all other families & people in PDX, Oregon & the PNW who supported & helped to make us calling Portland home for now. We love it here.
